Conference Notice: Figures and Fictions: The Ethics and Poetics of Photographic Depictionsof People

The centre for the Study of Contemporary Art, UCL, in collaboration with the Victoria & Albert Museum is organising an international conference to coincide with the exhibition ‘Figures and Fictions: Contemporary South African Photography’ curated By Tamar Garb (UCL) and Martin Barnes (V & A), open from 12 April – 17 July 2011 at the V &A.

Conference to be held on 24 and 25 June 2011 at the V & A.Speakers include Achille Mbembe, Michael Godby, Jo Ractliffe, Joy Gregory, Zwelethu Methethwa, Roelef van Wyk, Sarah Nuttall, Ashraf Jamal, Darren Newbury, Elizabeth Edwards, Kerryn Greenberg, Sean O’ Toole, Saul Dubow, Annie Coombes, Liese van der Watt, Carli Coetzee, Amy Halliday and Christopher Pinney.
