Greek (Hi)stories through the Lens: Photography conference

The Centre for Hellenic Studies (KCL) would like to draw your attention to the international conference ‘Greek (Hi)stories through the Lens: Photographs, Photographers and their Testimonies’ to take place at King’s College London on 8-11 June 2011. The conference aims at exploring photographic depictions of Greece and Greeks from the 1840s to the present in an empirical, theoretical and comparative context. This will be the first conference worldwide to capitalise on photographic depictions of Greece as a means to problematise its recent history and its iconic representation in international media. The conference will be accompanied by the week-long exhibition ‘The Human Price of War: Voula Papaioannou’s Phototestimonies on 1940s’ Greece (Great Hall, KCL, 7-13 June 2011), organized in collaboration with the Benaki Museum in Athens.
